Cracking Down on Distracted Driving CHP Says This Includes Eating and Putting on Makeup

Cracking Down on Distracted Driving CHP Says This Includes Eating and Putting on Makeup –blog submitted by ticketbust.com, helping drivers contest and dismiss their traffic tickets.

The CHP is coming down tough on distracted drivers and since California began ticketing for cell phone use while driving it is reported that the CHP has written over 500,000 tickets statewide.

CHP officials have reported they are not only looking to ticket drivers on the cell phone but also those who are driving distracted doing things like putting on makeup or reading magazines.

Although putting on makeup and reading is not prohibited in the vehicle code section governing cell phone use while driving, there is a separate vehicle code that covers “Reckless Driving” which could be interpreted to include acts that make up distracted driving.

Per California Vehicle Code Section 23103: “ A person who drives a vehicle upon a highway in willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property is guilty of reckless driving.” Much more serious than getting a cell phone ticket which results in no jail time and only about $100 fine, if convicted of this, a person could face jail time or a fine of up to $1,000 or BOTH. –  blog submitted by ticketbust.com, helping drivers contest and dismiss their traffic tickets.
