Brown just signed bill AB-516 into law which will require California car dealers to assign temporary license plates to newly purchased vehicles. Watch for speed limit changes when crossing county and state lines or entering towns.  The general speed limit for California freeways is 65 mph. California traffic law requires local roads to have periodic speed surveys to make sure speed limits aren’t set too low. If the surveys aren’t done or the speed limit is too low, then fancy speed guns can’t be used.  Why is this a problem for LAPD? As LAPD officer Troy Williams recently explained to Los Angeles City Council Transportation Committee, most streets in LA have expired speed surveys. Not to mention there was Gov. Jerry Brown’s amnesty program which gave people the chance to reduce their ticket debts. The latest could-be-win for California drivers?  A bill by state Sen. Bob Hertzberg that would stop the automatic suspension of driver’s licenses of people who fail to pay traffic fines or fail to appear in court for traffic violations, was approved and is on its way to the Assembly.
