Distracted Driving: Are California drivers obsessed with selfies?blog submitted by TicketBust.com, helping drivers contest and dismiss their traffic tickets.  At any moment during the day over half a million drivers are fiddling with a cell phone from behind the wheel, according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.  Chatting, texting, or playing games while driving is risky behavior for sure; but this new trend may be even worse.  According to a new study by Auto Insurance Center, in California drivers take way more selfies than drivers in any other state. – blog submitted by TicketBust.com, helping drivers fight their traffic tickets.

Texting not the only distracted driving danger: Mobile games quickly taking over.blog submitted by TicketBust.com, helping drivers contest and dismiss their traffic tickets.

Texting isn’t the only distracted driving danger.

Safety advocates are also concerned about drivers being addicted to their mobile games and playing while behind the wheel. Just recently, a driver reportedly crashed into a parked patrol car while playing Pokemon GO.

Whether it’s looking at a phone, playing a game, or even eating behind the wheel, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says distracted driving accounts for thousands of injuries each day. –  blog submitted by TicketBust.com, helping drivers fight their traffic tickets.

License plate violators beware this new law will make it easier for officers to ticket

License plate violators beware this new law will make it easier for officers to ticket.blog submitted by TicketBust.com, helping drivers contest and dismiss their traffic tickets.  Gone are the days where paper plates could be left on indefinitely to keep that new car vibe going. Gov. Brown just signed bill AB-516 into law which will require California car dealers to assign temporary license plates to newly purchased vehicles. Expiration dates will make it so police can tell if you’ve driven around without plates for too long.  And unique report-of-sale numbers will prevent toll evaders or red light violators from slipping through the cracks where there is camera enforcement. This new legislation will go into effect January 1, 2019. –  blog submitted by TicketBust.com, helping drivers fight their traffic tickets.

Are more California drivers using a phone behind the wheel?

Are more California drivers using a phone behind the wheel?  blog submitted by TicketBust.com, helping drivers contest and dismiss their traffic tickets.  We all know it’s bad to text and drive.  And illegal. But drivers can’t seem to help themselves. According to a study conducted by the California Office of Traffic Safety in April of this year, the number of California drivers seen using a mobile device during the day has reached a new high.  The study notes though that due to the difficulty of observing mobile device use in a vehicle actual usage is likely even higher. –  blog submitted by TicketBust.com, helping drivers fight their traffic tickets.

Is motorcycle lane splitting legal and is it safe?

Is motorcycle lane splitting legal and is it safe?blog submitted by TicketBust.com, helping drivers contest and dismiss their traffic tickets. Lane splitting is the practice of a motorcycle driving between two rows of stopped or moving cars in the same lane. No law in California specifically authorizes lane splitting and none prohibits it. According to research done by UC Berkeley in 2015, it can be done safely if the motorcycle is driven at a speed of no more than 50 mph and not more than 15 mph faster than surrounding traffic.  Although there are currently no official safety guidelines in place, a new bill seeks to authorize the California Highway Patrol to develop these. –  blog submitted by TicketBust.com, helping drivers fight their traffic tickets.

Traveling this summer? Remember California speed law basics

Traveling this summer? Remember California speed law basics. – blog submitted by TicketBust.com, helping drivers contest and dismiss their traffic tickets.  Traveling this summer? Watch for speed limit changes when crossing county and state lines or entering towns.  The general speed limit for California freeways is 65 mph. In more rural areas you might see higher posted speeds of 70 mph or lower posted speeds of 55 mph on two lane highways.  Lower speed in unfamiliar areas, especially when entering towns, business districts, or residential areas where speed limits can drop to as low 25 mph.  Remember, getting nabbed for speeding can result in one or two negative marks on your driving record and a fine of up to $500. –  blog submitted by TicketBust.com, helping drivers fight their traffic tickets.

Short yellow light? Could be enough to dismiss your red light camera ticket

Short yellow light? Could be enough to dismiss your red light camera ticket. – blog submitted by TicketBust.com, helping drivers contest and dismiss their traffic tickets.  Recently the City of Los Alamitos announced that one of their camera enforced traffic signals switched from yellow to red faster than state law allows, likely causing hundreds of tickets to be issued incorrectly, some of which have already been tossed out of court.  This is an important reminder to verify the timing of a yellow light should you receive a red light camera ticket in the mail. –  blog submitted by TicketBust.com, helping drivers fight their traffic tickets.

Feeling the heat this summer? Don’t leave little ones unattended in cars.

Feeling the heat this summer? Don’t leave little ones unattended in cars.blog submitted by TicketBust.com, helping drivers fight their traffic tickets.  During the heat of summer, it’s especially important to “look before you lock.” It’s illegal to leave children unattended in locked vehicles per Vehicle Code section 15620 which says no child under six can be left alone in a car. And let’s not forget about Fido! It only takes minutes for the interior temperature of a vehicle to reach dangerous levels, so don’t leave pets locked inside either. – blog submitted by TicketBust.com, helping drivers fight their traffic tickets.

Why LAPD is writing less speeding tickets

Why LAPD is writing less speeding tickets. –  blog submitted by TicketBust.com, helping drivers contest and dismiss their traffic tickets.

California traffic law requires local roads to have periodic speed surveys to make sure speed limits aren’t set too low. If the surveys aren’t done or the speed limit is too low, then fancy speed guns can’t be used.  Why is this a problem for LAPD? As LAPD officer Troy Williams recently explained to Los Angeles City Council Transportation Committee, most streets in LA have expired speed surveys. LAPD’s use of speed guns has been curtailed by this and according to Williams, the number of speeding tickets has gone down from 99,000 speeding tickets in 2010 to just 16,000 in 2015. –  blog submitted by TicketBust.com, helping drivers fight their traffic tickets.

Another step towards helping drivers plagued by high traffic ticket fines

Another step towards helping drivers plagued by high traffic ticket fines. blog submitted by TicketBust.com, helping drivers contest and dismiss their traffic tickets.  Last year, ticketed drivers got a break when legislation was implemented to let drivers contest tickets in court without first having to pay the fine. Not to mention there was Gov. Jerry Brown’s amnesty program which gave people the chance to reduce their ticket debts. The latest could-be-win for California drivers?  A bill by state Sen. Bob Hertzberg that would stop the automatic suspension of driver’s licenses of people who fail to pay traffic fines or fail to appear in court for traffic violations, was approved and is on its way to the Assembly. This new bill would also require the DMV to restore driving privileges for hundreds-of-thousands who have already lost them for failing to pay a ticket or appear in court. –  blog submitted by TicketBust.com, helping drivers contest and dismiss their traffic tickets.
